The Falcons , looking for help in the secondary, agreed to terms with cornerback Brian Williams on Sunday. Williams is an eight-year veteran and has started 93 NFL games. He is expected to compete for one of the starting positions. Williams has 18 career interceptions. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2002 draft out of N.C. State by Minnesota.
He played four seasons for the Vikings. He was with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the last three years and is familiar with head coach Mike Smith's defensive system.
The Falcons also have filled their practice squad.
Quarterback D.J. Shockley heads up the list of eight players.
Also on the practice squad are wide receiver Troy Bergeron, offensive lineman Michael Butterworth, linebacker Robert James, defensive end Maurice Lucas, cornerback Glenn Sharpe, offensive guard Jose Valdez and defensive tackle Vance Walker.
All of the practice squad players were in training camp with the Falcons and were released when the team trimmed its roster to 53 players.
